- Ascension
can this be my only home?
planes of dust, rising seas.
I'll release the bonds, but will this set me free?
awake, climb, all will fade.
in time, we will understand
that all we can see is not the end to all that will be.
- Everything That Rises Must Converge
We once walked the same path,
Our shadows were as one.
With distance and time, division befell us all,
We pulled the wool over our eyes and laid to rest accord forever more.
Awake, sanctorum, awake!
Awake, those searching, awake!
- Firewind
Pavement of stars, Sky like the sea. And still, the distance between is less than the distance between you and me. I used to hear your voice breathing through the wind I used to feel your fire, burning at my skin I reach arms length to take the stars as my own, but they stare back at what I have, reflecting all I’ve never known.
- O' Come O' Come Emmanuel
O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here,
Until the Son of God appears,
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel,
Shall come to thee, O Israel.
O come, Thou Day-Spring, come and cheer,
- Seasons
We've conquered everything
These minds and these machines
By our hands the earth stops its spin
And with our will it begins again.
But our first breath is as our last.
Will the heavens still shine without our gaze?
And will the seasons still pass if there's no one to count the days?
- The House Where You Were Born
It’s like coming back to the house where you were born- Photographs in the hall from years before. The window in your brother’s room where morning sun would speak to you Is covered up with years of dust- it shines no light, gives no view Shades are drawn, eyes are turned from sky above, You’ve found yourself far from that place you used to love. So you paint the walls familiar shades, but the room itself remains unchanged. And as you look deep within, you gain the courage to begin: “I used to be such a burning inception, When days ahead seemed as brilliant as morning’s light Spent my life waiting for the rising sun But the dawn has come and left me here to find- While I don’t recognize who I’ve become I’ve grown much farther from the person I once was So like the glare out from evening’s glow I’ll close my eyes and let this go.”
- The Machine Stops
A cold steel womb. a distorted view.
A deafening hum that wont be subdued.
We've found our being within the churning, and the gears that are turning, but to what end?
This is not what I'm meant for, this is not what I am.
A cog, a spoke in the machinery of men
that never takes us to where we haven't been.
- The Overman
We've broken the binding chain
The earth cannot contain
Our arms stretch past the sky
Now as gods we all shall rise
Exaltation in the least of these
We are all that will be.
Now awake! and find the dream conceived
