Американский фолк-рок певец Джим Кроучи выпустил свой первый альбом "Facets" ("Грани" 1966) в количестве 500 штук на 500 долларов, подареных ему на свадьбу родителями, в надежде, что альбом провалится и Джим найдёт "респектабельную" профессию. Но альбом был весь распродан и Джим уже в дуэте с женой стал выступать в барах и на фестивалях, даже совершил тур по Европе. В 1972 году он заключил контракт на три альбома и его песни приобрели популярность. На пике карьеры он начал гастролировать по США и разбился в авиакатастрофе в сентябре 1973, перелетая с одного концерта на другой.
Героя песни "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" Джим списал со своего друга по армейской службе, отличавшегося неуемным характером. Песню перепели многие артисты, включая Фрэнка Синатру, а Фредди Меркури, называвший Кроучи своим вдохновителем, написал песню "Bring Back That Leroy Brown" ("Верните Лироя Брауна") для альбома группы Queen "Sheer Heart Attack", вышедшего через год после гибели Джима Кроучи.
В переводе фамилия Браун изменена на Брайн ради рифмы.
